So on this ridiculously cold day in South Carolina I decided to get a little crafty. I don’t do cold. Period.
I was at the drug store the other day, and I came across the most delish candy. Now I love some candy if you haven’t already figured that out. It is called Gimbals Cherry Lovers. They are fruit chews shaped like hearts. That isn’t even the best part. The best part is that they are made with real cherry juice and are high in antioxidants and Vitamin C.
SHUT THE FRONT DOOR…
Candy that is good for you! Have I died and gone to candy land? Each heart is a different type of cherry flavor. There is chocolate covered cherry, cherry cheesecake, kiwi cherry, cherry cola, black cherry, cherry daiquiri, bing cherry and cherry vanilla. You really gotta like cherries to appreciate these little treats.
So I decided to turn the candy into an edible Valentine’s Day necklace and bracelet for Hattie. It ended up being a pretty simple task. Surprisingly. I did have to mess around a bit with it to make it work, but they ended up super cute.
Supplies:
Bag of Gimbals Cherry Lovers candies
.5 mm clear stretch cord
large needle
scissors
ribbon
Here is a little tutorial I put together:
- Supplies
- Put Needle through middle of heart
- Push needle through
- Pull needle all the way through and drop the candy down.
- I tied ribbons on either side of the candies, and one at the top where I tied the elastic together.
- This is me wearing the necklace.
- I tied the two pieces of elastic together, and then tied a ribbon over the knot.
- Bracelet on my wrist
I tried to string the hearts from the top to the bottom, but the needle kept cracking the candy. So running the needle from front to back worked better. Some of the candies still did crack a little, but nearly as bad.
Hattie was not that impressed with my creation. She put the bracelet on, licked it and then made a face. Oh well. I think I might make them for her to give to the girls in her dance class for Valentine’s Day. The kids may not like them, but I know the dance moms will love them. If someone from Gimbal’s Candy happens to read this blog, I will be more than happy to write a review for you in exchange for a case of the Cherry Lovers!
